Special Meeting of PMV July 21 to act on
Kirkmont Center Plan for Self-Sustainability

Kirkmont CenterPresbytery of the Miami Valley will meet Tuesday, July 21, 5:30 P.M.  at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Dayton, to act on the Kirkmont Center Plan for Self-Sustainability prepared by the ad hoc Steering Group,  which has been working diligently with the Board of Trustees and Council for nearly two years. The report addresses the concerns of both the presbytery for the continuing ministry of Kirkmont and the mandate for financial self-sustainability in the presbytery’s New Design.

Celebrate Small Church Sunday, July 19

Small Church SundaySmall Church Sunday, July 19, is a time for Presbyterians to gather together to celebrate and recognize the work of small congregations.  This year’s focus is identity, specifically, where do our congregations and members find their identity?

Learning Resource Center opens

The Learning Resource Center at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Centerville, has opened and is available for use by everyone in the Presbytery of the Miami Valley. The LRC collection includes all materials from the former PMV Resource Center (once housed at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Dayton), the library of Southminster, selected materials from New Source and many materials from personal libraries. The materials include books for adults, children and youth—fiction and nonfiction , audio visual materials, and church curriculum, with a focus on reformed materials. Help for Miami Valley Job Seekers

Job SeekerCovenant Presbyterian Church, Springfield, hosts a Job Seekers Networking Group 6:30-8:30 P.M., every other Wednesday. At each meeting, participants discuss career transition topics such as writing a winning resume, creating your marketing plan, networking, online resources, answering the tough interview questions, and they also hear from relevant speakers. Fairhaven Church, Centerville, offers a Job Seekers Group, which meets Thursdays 9:00-11:30 A.M. Participants receive support and encouragement, job search training, and tips. Each week experts in career coaching, HR, Executive Placement, etc. provide training as well as professional networking opportunities for people in the Dayton area. The YMCA of Greater Dayton offers Support Groups for Job Seekers at various branches around the Miami Valley. Each group is led by a trained facilitator and will provide support and encouragement to individuals who are dealing with the stress of being without employment and the challenges of searching for a job. Anyone in the community who would benefit from this support group, which is sponsored by the YMCA and facilitated by a YMCA Volunteer Chaplain, is welcome to attend at no cost. Summer Camp at Kirkmont Center

Kirkmont Summer CampersKirkmont Center has opened its Summer Program Schedule, and through September 7, the PMV camp and conference center in Zanesfield, Ohio, offers a variety of summer programming opportunities for people of all ages, with the theme "Breakthrough.” Kirkmont Center is open to people of all faiths and denominations. 
 
We have been blessed with an amazing and beautiful place to celebrate God's love, peace, and grace!  It's a very special place where we have grown in our relationships with God and have met some of our dearest friends! 
 
We'll enjoy and learn about God's creation and our relationships with Him by relaxing, swimming, reflecting, playing outside, singing and worshiping at the campfire, hiking, seeing old friends, making new friends and much more! More information>>

Racial Ethnic College Scholarships

College StudentsRacial Ethnic Scholarships are available for minority persons in good academic standing who are members of a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation within the bounds of the Synod of the Covenant, which includes Presbytery of the Miami Valley. Scholarships are for one year for minority college, university and seminary students who have demonstrated financial need. Students may apply for a second year. Rebecca’s House Volunteers Meeting, July 5

Belle Center United Presbyterian Church is now scheduling volunteers to build Rebecca’s House in Gulfport, MS. from August into October.  The church has been working with other churches and organizations to finance and build a home for a family in Mississippi displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Volunteers can form their own teams or join another group.  There will be an informational meeting on July 5, 4:00 P.M. at the church for anyone interested.  Refreshments will be served following the meeting.  Call the church at 937-464-2695 with any questions.

Reclaiming Congregational Song, July 27-29

Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA will host “Reclaiming Congregational Song” July 27-29. The workshop will address practical, musical, and pastoral ways to help members and leaders of congregations to reclaim or cultivate their own musicianship and the embodied act of singing in worship. Keynote speaker is Patrick Evans, associate professor in Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music. This event is open to clergy, educators, musicians, and others who are simply interested – whether you have a deep knowledge of music or you are a novice. More information & registration>>

Northminster Mission Fund

Grants up to $5,000.00 are available to individual Congregations, Congregations in Partnership, Designated Presbytery Networks, and Validated Ministries of the Presbytery of the Miami Valley, for the continued purpose of building up the body of Christ.
